The Compass Rose Learning Center

A monthly workshop series that consists of four workshops. The first workshop is an introductory class that explains how to use a chart and provides guidance on its usage. The second workshop demonstrates the process of identifying issues, charting them, and finding solutions using examples from a my personal experiences. The third and fourth workshops involve attendees submitting their own issues in advance and participating in an interactive session where they chart their own courses. If there are many issues, we will compile them into relevant categories. All workshop materials will be saved and emailed to the attendees.

Achieving self-awareness

The chart is divided into four quadrants. The top half symbolizes strength, wisdom, and awareness. Fear governs the emotions and actions in the lower half. Our feelings and beliefs are represented on the left, while our actions are on the right. To change our behavior, we must first change our thinking; that’s a fundamental principle. This course teaches mindfulness of thoughts and actions, helping us discern whether our choices stem from strength or fear.

My Story

Lynda Corrado

My seemingly ordinary life (a deceptive illusion) led me to the 1992 and 1995 America’s Cup, where I aimed to create an all-female team. It’s a dream that would require sacrificing all I have, but in return, I would gain my most valuable possession: my life. At the time, I was unaware that I was beginning to self-destruct. I started to heal thanks to the love and support of others. Being a visual learner and sailor, I charted my thoughts and actions, using a compass as a metaphor to explore my beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviors. While this course is framed as a case study on experiencing living a life in victim mode, I was left pondering why I made those particular decisions. It’s a story that, to varying degrees, everyone can identify with. This is about recognizing our self-sabotaging behaviors and using a compass to correct our course. It’s about empowerment, not allowing fear to dictate our actions. It is a path to greater awareness. Embarking on a quest to discover our value.

I am currently pursuing a graduate certificate in organizational psychology and have also applied for a doctoral program in Leadership and Learning at NYU. Thankfully, I have been fortunate enough to secure scholarships that will cover my expenses. This is especially beneficial for me, as I am a retired teacher with a limited fixed income. However, I have plans to initiate a workshop program aimed at assisting participants in discovering self-awareness.
